ABOUT AND CONTACT US

Los Angeles Film and Reel Club

Los Angeles Film and Reel Club had its debut meeting on November 6, 2016 (yes that means we are a very new club!). It was founded when Mary posted on the Film Casting & Job Board Los Angeles that she had just moved to the area and wondered if anyone wanted to make shorts and take turns getting to be cast and crew. To her surprise, 150+ people were interested, so she started a club. In a short 1.5 months, the club has grown to over 500 members, has worked on 4 active projects, and plans on keeping the same momentum in the new year. In fact, in addition to the bi-monthly shorts, we will also be producing a feature film based off the debut meeting, and turning the short from the third meeting into a trilogy. In addition to the meetings we are filming, the club will also be hosting mixers, screenings, and auditions for the feature!

President and Founder

Myri Houli (Mary Hou) is the President and Founder of LAFRC. Before she had memories, her mom tells her she would go up to strangers and ask them what they would like her to perform, so she was literally born to act. Myri graduated with a BS in Finance from Boston College, but quickly realized she wanted to do what she loves instead and has been acting professionally since 2014. In August of 2016, she decided to make the big move to LA to fully pursue her dreams. She wanted to see if others were also interested in building their reels which is how LAFRC was founded. Myri also sometimes writes (most of the club shorts so far). She specializes in running Casting Calls and overall club functions. Both Myri and Eric function as Studio Heads of the club.

Vice President

Eric Hinwood is the Vice President of the club. He began his film career when he was 7 years old with a home video camera using cassette tapes, and has gone on to co-found an independent film production company, ATAEC Studios, that has garnered immediate success for the young filmmaker. This company was started in early 2009, and they soon began to make short films and eventually features. Eric Hinwood graduated from the HARA Motion Picture Conservatory's Script-to-Screen program in 2012, and graduated from Whittier College in 2016 with a BA in Film Production and Business, and a BA in French Language and Literature. During that time he honed his skills, directing several feature films and shorts, acting in several more, and working behind the scenes on side projects. He continues to freelance in Los Angeles County to this day. He helps to make all the important decisions with the President. Eric and Mary are equivalent to the Studio Heads of the club. He specializes in running the Crew Calls.

Vanessa Banta hails from the beautiful Pacific Northwest where she grew up on a steady diet of soap operas and horror movies. This soon blossomed into a passion for performing, and before she knew it, she was addicted. Spurred on by her obsessive love of reading and a taste for applause, Vanessa spent her high school years furthering her storytelling skills in any way she could. She was a member of advanced drama, and captain of her school's dance team. She went on to earn a degree in broadcasting with a minor in theater from Washington State University. Vanessa moved to LA shortly after graduating, in order to turn her habit of pretending to be other people into an actual career. She is an Irene Ryan nominee and holds a Kennedy Center Certificate of Merit in Acting. Vanessa is represented across the board by Tangerine Talent. Though her first and main love is acting, she also enjoys dancing, writing, sound design, and hanging out at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Vanessa primarily helps the LAFRC in an administrative capacity, while spending her free time drinking copious amounts of coffee and trying not spend all her money on lipstick.

Blake Harbour, having had his fill of the cold mountain air, deep snow banks and ridiculous though entertaining wildlife, decided to hit the road. His search for adventure, fortune and a well placed explosion had taken him to the City of Angels. Building monsters, choreographing fights and eating fire had been enough to keep him entertained so far. But it is time for this little mountain man to do something more exciting. Which is why he has jumped on the opportunity to choreograph, build, and entertain for LAFRC...... “Do you smell something burning?”
